Book of Sand

Everyone knows jinn exist, but only agents of chaos and the insane see them. After the death of his mother, Isidore (age 9) is left to reframe his understanding of magick and morality, and escape the grasp of the Temple Court. Aided by the Magus, a man with shifting allegiances to both Isidore and the Theocratic state, he begins on a path to the fabled city of faerie and chaos-makers deep in the forest.

But magick and grief changes the mind. The path ahead is unclear and blocked by monsters. Isidore’s worst fears are manifesting, and it becomes more and more difficult to discern what is real, what is magick, or if he has gone insane. Afraid of becoming a monster himself, Isidore has to choose to face death and take control of the circumstances unfolding around him.

Meanwhile, Amirah Muizza’s dream life shatters when her son and husband are taken from her. Knowing she cannot find them alone, she must turn herself in to the Temple Court and face a heritage she hoped to forget. All she has to find her son is the description of the Magus, a freckle-faced boy, and unholy magick.
